Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on June 17, 1775. The American colonists were surrounding Boston which was full of British troops. Across the Charles River from Boston was the Charlestown Peninsula where the town of Charlestown and Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill were located. The hills were of strategic importance because they overlooked the surrounding area, including Boston Harbor. The history of the Pine Tree as a symbol of New England predates the European colonial settlements. In eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and the southern corner of Maine, there lived a nomadic tribe of Native Americans known as the Penacook. “Penacook” is an Algonquin word meaning “Children of the Pine Tree.” flag-works.com

Oklahoma State November 16, 1907

Oklahoma became the 46th state in the United States on November 16, 1907.

Originally, the state of Oklahoma was set aside for the exclusive use of the Indians and was called Indian Territory. However, in 1889, the land was opened to settlers in what became know as the “Oklahoma Land Rush.” In the first opening day on April 22, 1889, 50,000 people swarmed into the area. Those who tried to beat the noon starting gun were called Sooners. The state’s nickname is Hence.

The Oklahoma state flag honors more than 60 groups of Native Americans and their ancestors. The blue field comes from a flag carried by Choctaw soldiers during the civil war. The center shield is the battle shield of an Osage warrior. It is made of buffalo hide and decorated with eagle feathers. Two symbols of peace lie across the shield. One is the calumet, or peace pipe. The other is an olive branch. Crosses on the shield are Native American signs for stars, representing high ideals.

November 2, 1889

North Dakota the 39th state and South Dakota the 40th state became part of the Union on November 2, 1889. Because both wanted to be the first state admitted, President Benjamin Harrison shuffled both statehood papers and signed then without knowing which one was first. However, because North Dakota is alphabetically before South Dakota, its proclamation was published first.

Patriot Day-9/11

Flag of Honor:  Made in the USA includes the names of everyone who perished on 9/11; on all of the planes, at Shanksville, PA, the Pentagon and the World Trade Center.

Flag of Heroes Made in the USA includes the names of all the Emergency Services personnel, including FDNY, PAPD, and NYPD & COURT Officers.

Patriot Day is an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Many Americans refer Patriot Day as 9/11 or September 11.

The flags are a historical marker to the events of 9/11 which is one of the most significant events of our lifetime. They give people a tangible connection to that day. Since flags are used as symbols in our country and a flag can be framed or flown it was the best way to create a lasting tribute that the public could embrace on an individual level.

The American Flag is often displayed around images of the events on September 11, 2001. This is to remind Americans that their country remained strong in the face of massive terrorist attacks.

The Flag of Honor and Flag of Heroes are in stock at Flag-Works over America.  You can place your order online or with a customer service representative at 1-800-580-0009.  Please remember: all flags purchased online ship for free.
