Is Your American Flag Made In America?

FMAA Certified Made in the USA  on Flag-Works American Flag

Flag-Works Name on its Small American Flags

I get this question all the time, and never gave it much thought because all my American flags, country, state, etc. are made in America.  Anyways, I decided to check out the competition on the internet.  Well, I couldn’t believe how many people are buying American flags from China companies.  Some of the companies are Anley, G128 and VSVO to name a few.  Not surprising but I guess the cost is to good to be true.  If you have prime for free shipping you can get a Lite polyester flag for $5.65.  Simply fantastic right.  Hum, read the reviews, you get what you pay for, it’s junk. Our low price printed American flags are made of high quality poly-cotton with good strong grommets and quality stitching. Our price is $15.95 with free shipping.  You don’t have to be a prime member either. Our lowest price printed American flag will out fly, out shine, outlast, out perform any cheap flag from China, or “good” flag from China.  In fact, for a few dollars more you can get our Made in America sewn stripes and embroidered star American flag for $24.95 and free shipping.  This flag will be one you will be proud to fly and tell your neighbors that your flag is made by Americans, in America for Americans and you can prove it.

So how do you prove your flag is made in America or how do I know if my flag was made in China? The short answer is if it doesn’t have a label you won’t be able to tell.  However, what I do know is by law the flag is suppose to be marked with its place of origin.  The only one who can remove that label is the end user.  So all american made flags will have a  similar label to the ones I have pictured here.  The best American flags have the FMAA label.

Veteran’s Day November 11th

It was at 11 am on November 11, 1918 that a temporary peace, or armistice, was signed and the fighting during World War II came to an end. A year later President Woodrow Wilson announced that November 11th would be called Armistice Day in the United States.

In 1938 Armistice Day became a national federal holiday. It was a day dedicated to world peace and held in honor of the veterans of World War I.

In 1954 Congress decided to change the day to Veteran’s Day. This was because they wanted to honor the veterans of all wars including World War II and the Korean War.

Many people fly a US flag on this day to show their patriotism and support for the armed services. At 11 am a moment of silence is observed to remember those who served.

If you see a veteran or soldier on Veterans Day, be sure to thank them personally for their service to our country. Flag-Works has plenty of American flags in stock in various sizes. Order yours on our website or visit the retail store

Canada Flag

The flag of Canada was officially adopted on February 15, 1965. The Canadian Red Ensign, bearing the Union Jack and the shield of the royal arms of Canada, was lowered and then, on the stroke of noon, the new maple leaf flag was raised. The crowd sang the national anthem O Canada, followed by the royal anthem, God Save the Queen.

The following words, spoken on that momentous day by the Honorable Maurice Bourget, Speaker of the Senate, added further symbolic meaning to the flag: “The flag is the symbol of the nation’s unity, for it, beyond any doubt, represents all the citizens of Canada without distinction of race, language, belief or opinion.

The stylish red maple leaf has been the national symbol of Canada for over 150 years. Red and white are the official colors of Canada, proclaimed by King George V in 1921. Canadian Province and Territory Flags

American flags – Nylon versus Polyester

Nylon American flag

People always ask me what’s the best outdoor American flag?  Well, I always answer “that depends”.  You see each flag material works better in different environments.  So I then ask a few more questions like:  Where are you flying the American flag, on a flagpole? Off the side of a house, indoors outdoors, in the shade, in the open by a lake, in a field, in the city, in the country. I may also ask, how high up, how low to the ground, all these variables have effects on the flag.  My experience, tells me that 90% of the American people can fly the nylon American flag with great results in any location. The nylon is light but strong.  It has great fly ability in the slightest breeze and it can maintain its construction even in the strongest of winds.

Polyester American flag

The other 10% will do better to fly a woven 2 ply polyester American flag.  This flag is heavy and strong.  However, it needs a strong breeze to get it moving.  This is perfect for large flags on larger flagpoles, which generally get higher winds. Again location is everything.  Both, the nylon flag and the polyester American flags have high fade resistance capabilities (again depends on where the flag is flown).

One place I would not fly a polyester American flag is off the side of  a house or building.  House mounted flagpoles, which already have the flag in a flying position, risk a heavy rain soaked flag, pulling the bracket from the wall.

Wyoming State Flag

Wyoming State Flag
Wyoming (WY) was the first state to give women the right to vote and hold public office, an event that is commemorated on its flag with the woman in the picture and the banner that she holds proclaiming “Equal Rights.” The two dates on the seal signify the organization of territorial government and the state’s later admission to the Union. The number 44 shows that Wyoming was the 44th state. The two men represent ranching and mining in early times. The flag was designed by A. C. Keyes, who had originally put the buffalo facing the other direction. Wyoming State Flag Adopted: 1917

The present day flag can be purchased at quality full service flag stores like Flag-Works over America in Concord NH.   The flags range in size from 4”x6” to 10’X15’ however the most common size in the 3’x5’, perfect for flying at home or your business. Wyoming state flags can be supplied in either heavy duty nylon or 2 ply woven polyester.  Both can withstand the harsh Wyoming weather that Wyoming has to offer. Flags ship free!
